Chapter One:
It's All Over but the Crying
By: [Amber] Aka: Nanu Fui

‘Naraku is finally defeated,’ Kagome folded her sleeping bag and tucked it into her yellow bag. She was now fully packed and ready to go. She will take the Jewell Shards with her, and never return to this time. It was destiny. Inuyasha was only using her to help collect the Jewell Shards. Even after all they’ve been through, that is what she had concluded. Inuyasha was too focused on Kikyo anyways, even now since she’s finally dead. Not that Kagome was too excited about it. Inuyasha’s pained expression gave it all away when he heard she had finally died. ‘He still loved her. After all this time, after everything we’ve been through. He still loves her.’ A sigh passed her lips and she looked up towards the ceiling of the cabin she and the others were residing in, ‘I really do believe that I’m not needed her anymore.’
The sky was dark, the full moon shinning brightly. There was a light wind that invited Kagome’s hair for a dance. It was slightly chilly, but Kagome was used to receiving the coldness. She sighed once again, tonight was the last night she’d stay here in the Medieval Japan times. She’ll leave without saying goodbye. She had to. Otherwise, it would be too hard to go. Seeing everyone’s sad faces… she hated seeing them so down. It hurt so bad it made her think not twice, but three times about leaving. Her mind was made up, and she wouldn’t change… not even if Inuyasha tried to stop her. The strings to her heart pulled just slightly, ‘I have to leave without saying goodbye. Otherwise, I’ll end up staying.’ And that wasn’t an option. Not anymore. She thought about staying here from time-to-time but it was always the same conclusion, “This isn’t my time. I don’t belong here.” It was a fact that she needed to be at her own time more often. She was failing school. Her friends stopped talking to her even Hojo stopped giving her gifts. Things back at her time needed to be patched up and rescued, and that was a job only she could do.
Still, it pained her to leave without seeing them, without seeing him one last time. She knew they would be mad at her, but hopefully they would understand in due time. With that, Kagome wrapped the bags sleeves over her shoulders and began making her way to the well. Everyone was still sleeping it was late, very late. Inuyasha… well, she hadn’t seen him in two days, probably still mourning over the loss of Kikyo. She sighed once again, ‘even in death… his heart still belongs to you, Kikyo. I never stood a chance. It was childish of me to think otherwise.’ She thought that looking like the dead priestess would at least give her an advantage, but it didn’t. It only made things worse. It made Kagome wonder, ‘if I wasn’t her reincarnation… if I didn’t look like her… would he have noticed me at all?’ The answer to that would be an answer never made. It was another sigh that passed her lips, she stopped just as she stood outside of the doorway, “Goodbye… everyone.” And she left at full speed to the well.
She’s gone, lost, never to be seen again. Just like the last time, he didn’t get to say farewell. Naraku killed her. Just like how he almost killed Kagome. His clenched his fists tightly. He knew Kagome was hurt, but … he just couldn’t bring himself to see her face just now. She reminded him too much of Kikyo. He had to get over her death before seeing her once again. Then, he’d know that it’s Kagome he is attractive to. Kagome Higarashi. Not Kagome the reincarnation of Kikyo. Forcing himself to not see her was proving to be extremely hard. He used to watch her as she would drift off to sleep. He would watch her sleep every time she was in his time era. He caught himself before jumping down and running over to the cabin to do as such. He couldn’t. Not right now, anyways.
Inuyasha leaned against the tree and his arms pulled up lazily behind his head and legs crossed over each other. Something about tonight was very nerve wracking. This feeling in the pit of his stomach told him to go and see Kagome. He would have none of it, though. Not now. This feeling… it was bad. Something was amidst and it struck his curiosity highly. He sniffed the air once, twice… her scent was fading… where was she heading? His ears perked up as he picked up the sound of running feet, “she’s leaving?” he said to no one, “without saying goodbye to me?” A growl emerged from his throat and he jumped off the branch, heading towards the cabin they were using. No one’s even trying to stop her! Was she heading home? No she couldn’t be. Even Keade told her that if she were to go back… she could never return to this time.
His legs pushed with all their might as he ran closer to the cabin. Once close enough, Inuyasha stopped to a fast paced walk. The half demon sniffed the air again, she was by herself. She really was leaving! Wait, no… she couldn’t be. Maybe she was just out for a walk? He looked through the window of the cabin, only to find Kagome’s sleeping bag and items gone. The site alone made Inuyasha’s heart drop to his stomach, he didn’t bother to seeing who else was in the cabin; he was more concerned with Kagome. How dare she try to leave without saying bye! One thing was certain he HAD to stop her before it was too late. Before she made what could possibly be the biggest mistake of her life. Inuyasha sniffed the air once more, finding her scent nearly gone, he had to catch up! The half demon pushed of the ground and made his way to well through the trees. There was no way he would let her go without seeing her one last time.
Her heart was racing, her legs were burning, and her lungs were on fire… she needed a break, to take a few breaths of air. She couldn’t. Any moment now any one could be waking up and will come and search for her. She couldn’t allow that. She had to leave without saying bye it only made things so much easier for her. Each and every one of them would be fairly missed by her. Shippo, how he would cradle next to her while he slept. She’ll miss both Sango and Kiara, how they saved her life numerous of times. Miroku and his womanizing skills would be surprisingly missed just as well. Inuyasha… his stubborn acts, selfish attitude, uncared for comments, his soft hands… his golden orbs… his voice… the way he would look at her after being injured…
Unconsciously her run had slowed down to a complete halt. She stood there with her eyes absently starring at the floor, “…Inuyasha,” the name flowed right off her tongue. Realizing her surrounding were no longer blurs, she pushed her legs into a run once again. She can’t be wasting time. She has to leave before anyone else wakes up.
“Kagome!” a faint yell.
Still, she didn’t stop. She kept going.
“Kagome!” this time it was louder, which meant
‘Whoever it is… they’re getting closer…’ she pumped her legs even faster. Her mind still hadn’t process who the voice belonged to. The only thing on her mind was ‘run before they catch up and stop you.’
“Kagome, wait!” it was louder, clear… it was…
“Inuyasha…” she muttered, pushing her legs even faster. She couldn’t stop now. She couldn’t see him, otherwise she’ll only end up staying, ‘Inuyasha… go away!’ she thought while running even faster.
He hadn’t called her name again, which was good. It meant he stopped… or he just hasn’t called her named. Kagome, no longer able to run, had stopped completely to take a few breaths of air. She wouldn’t have stopped at all if the well wasn’t as close as it was now. Moments passed and her name still hadn’t been called, disappointedly… she sighed. Even though she didn’t want to see him, she still wanted him to try and stop her. If he did, then maybe he did harbor feelings for her after all. His absent voice pulled her even further into the nearby well.
Just as she had her right led hoisted over the wall of the well, a hand grabbed her shoulder, stopping her with a gentle touch. Hesitantly, she turned her head to the side. Who was grabbing her shoulder was someone she was not expecting, “Miroku…”
He held a firm face, offering her hand in his, which she accepted, and pulled her back over the well, “I just wanted to give you one last goodbye,” he pulled her hand to his lips and pressed them softly onto her flesh. He looked up to her and pulled back a few steps, giving them space, “Everyone will miss you.” He was looking sternly into her eyes.
Kagome said nothing in return. Why, why him? Wasn’t it Inuyasha who was chasing her? Then… if Miroku is here, “Sango and… the others are here as well?” she asked, eyes focusing on the floor.
He nodded simply.
Kagome closed her eyes shut and turned back around to face the well, “Please, do not think of me any different from what you used to,” she placed her right leg back over the wall, “but I had to leave without words of farewell. I’m sure you guys understa--”
“—No, Kagome, we don’t understand,” was the reply of a young fox demon.
Kagome placed her other leg over the well, not looking back, not saying good bye.
“Won’t you please give us a chance to reason with your decision?” came a feminine reply.
She didn’t go any further, nor did she move away. Simply sitting there, head still turned the other way. Why had they come? When did they wake up? How did they get here so fast?
“Kagome… we don’t want you to leave!” the Fox Demon spoke up. He was having trouble fathoming her choice to leave. Didn’t she love them? Why would she want to leave them all behind?
“After all we’ve been through… won’t you at least look at us and say farewell?” Kagome was unable to determine who this voice came from… she was too focused on keeping her tears in.
She couldn’t answer. Tears were swelling in here eyes. Everyone came… but Inuyasha. She knew it was him chasing her before… but why had he stopped? Kagome sniffed, “Goodbye, then,” she pushed off the wall. Though, before her body even got the chance to leave the wall, she was lifted up and carried far away from it, far away from the others just as well, ‘Inuyasha! He came after all!'
The silver haired half demon said not one word. He smelt her leaving and just as he was chasing her, he ran into the others. They also knew she would be leaving and were after her just as well. That was when they decided to on ahead without Inuyasha. Having Inuyasha follow them from behind, just in case they failed to convince her to stay he could try. He didn’t know why they decided on that, Kagome was mad at him… if they failed why would she listen to him?
“Let me go, Inuyasha!” came a cry for release. This wasn’t how things were supposed to go! How did everyone catch her? They were all sleeping! Inuyasha was just… gone. How did he know of her leaving as well? She thrashed, squirmed… kicked and scream, anything to make him let her go. Her plan to leave had just been completely tarnished. Leaving now will prove to be even more difficult. This is not how things were planned in her book. She should have been more cautious, paid more attention to her surroundings. If she did that… then maybe her plan would have worked. She was just too focused on leaving.
Still Inuyasha said not one word. Honestly, he had no idea what to say to her. What can he say to her? Nothing came to mind. He knew one thing was for sure, he wasn’t going to let her leave without saying goodbye. No way, no how. He’ll just keep holding her in his arms until he find a spot worthy enough to place her down in. It took longer than he expected, but he found a place near a pound. It was littered with lily pads and fireflies surrounding the entire area. He placed her gently on the ground and took a few steps back, looking her sternly in the eye, “You’re an idiot, Kagome.”
No, she did not come all this to just be insulted by him. No way. Kagome glared at him and turned around on her heals. She didn’t know where she was, but she could sense the Well and make her way through that alone, “Goodbye, Inuyasha,” it was mere whisper so low that she could barely even hear herself, but with his ears Kagome knew he could hear her. Her legs began making their way to the well.
“Wait, Kagome!”
A halt, lowering her head, but still didn’t turn back around. Kagome bit down on her bottom lip, anything to keep the tears from coming out. Tears that she knew the half demon could smell.
“Why are you leaving?”
An obvious answer, even the half demon knew her answer, “This isn’t my time. I don’t belong here,”
“Won’t you look at me?” his voice was just as low.
She didn’t answer. She couldn’t. Instead she began walking again.
Inuyasha had enough of this. Why won’t she look at him?! He jumped into the air and landed gracefully in front of her, still not saying anything but letting his eyes do all the talking. He didn’t want her to leave.
“Inuyasha, your attempts are pointless. Go and chase after Kikyo like you always do.” Slim hands moved to his chest and pushed him out of the way. Once he was out of her way, Kagome took off at fast speeds.
Inuyasha was shocked, ‘chase after Kikyo? Is this what this is all about?” “Kagome is it?” he shouted after her. He jumped into the trees and went of to chase Kagome. Not Kikyo, but Kagome.
He was closing in. ‘Stupid, girl.’ Her mind insulted her, ‘you actually thought you could outrun him?!’ she shut her eyes right and pushed her legs into an even faster run, ‘No, but at least I can try,” was her response, “He won’t chase after me. Not Kagome. He chases after Kikyo! Not me!” Her legs pushing into even a faster run. A run faster that she didn’t even know she was capable of, ‘If only I could run like this in P.E.!’ she thought.
“KAGOME!”
No. Why is he chasing me, “Inuyasha!” she shouted back, “I’m not Kikyo!” Just she finished, firm strong arms crept around her waist and hoisted her in the air, “Let me go, Inuyasha!”
“No, Kagome! Listen to me!” he squeezed her tighter, pulling her closer to him, “None of us want you to leave. So why?!”
“Inuyasha, please!” she was breaking. Unable to keep this up if things kept going this way, “just let me go!”
“NO!”
“Si-” she stopped herself. If she commanded him to sit, then she as well will be brought down. Not a good idea.
“Kagome, I’m going to put you down. Promise you will stop running away from me?”
She nodded, giving in.
His grip around her waist loosened before retreating from her body completely. The moment he did, his eyes grew wide, for Kagome turned around and threw herself into his chest as she sobbed deeply.
Not saying a word, his arms snaked around her waist again doing whatever he thought would stop her crying. He pulled her closer and tucked her head under his chin, “Why, Kagome?” his voice was soft, and his pain was detected by the raven haired school girl. He held her even tighter, “Do you know what would have happened to me… if you left?”
‘Happened to him?’ She frowned, pulling back from his warm embrace, “Is that what this is all about? Do you even care what happened to me?” Kagome wiped up the last tears, but saw it to be pointless for new tears were released from her brown orbs. She took a few steps back, her eyes full of disbelief. Kagome shook her head, narrowing her eyes at the half demon, “Inuyasha,” his ears perked, “Sit boy!”
Inuyasha tumbled face first into the grass below him, his head being buried under the ground. ‘What the hell?’ “Kagome!” his eyes shifted to look at her, but she was no longer there. He sniffed the air once more, “d**n her,” he struggled to a full stand before sniffing the air once more and ran after her fading scent.
“Tell me!” he shouted, landing right in front of her, cutting her off her path and stopping her completely. Chasing her proved to be quite difficult. The dog-eared demon was cut off, lead away into different directions. Kagome took a few of her belongings and shot them off into different directions with her bow and arrow. Confusing Inuyasha, leading him away while she grew closer to the well, now her only hope of escaping would be that everyone at the well left.
How he found her was out of her mind. Maybe she could run away again, tell him to sit, and keep telling him to sit each time he grew close. That would work, right? No. Even though she wanted to escape, there was a part of her that told her to submit. It told her to stay with Inuyasha. She wouldn’t stay, but she’ll at least spend her last moments with the one she had found herself falling in love with, and it hurt her knowing that he will never return her feelings. She may look like Kikyo, but she will never be the dead priestess. That thought alone developed a frown.
A frown noticed by Inuyasha, a frown that he could wipe away with just three words. Yet, he stood against it. The half demon still didn’t know the answer himself; does he love Kagome? He wasn’t sure. Though, he was sure that he did not want her to leave, and he would stop her at any cost; even if it meant bringing Naraku back to life. He was not going to let Kagome go. She was not going to slip from his grasp, “I’ll ask you again, Kagome,” he held her shoulders firmly, “Do you know what would happen to me if you left?”
Selfish questions! She looked at him with eyes full of hurt, before they darted back to the floor, “what?”
“I’d be lost without you,” he pulled her towards him and wrapped his arms around her protectively, “Kagome, I don’t know when this feeling started, but I know…” he held her tighter, lowering his voice as he whispered into her ear, “that I’m beginning to like it.”
“Feeling?”
“I don’t know what it is, but it scares me to death,” held her closer, “and this… this feeling… it only comes when you are around me. Whenever I know your close, it grows stronger,” voice even lower, “…and I don’t want it to leave,”
Her eyes grew wide. Her mouth wide open, ‘did he really say that?’ she shook her head, trying pull out of his embrace, but the more she struggled, the stronger he held onto her, “please… Inuyasha-”
“Listen Kagome,” he held her even tighter, “I won’t force you to stay, but maybe… I can convince you … to keep coming back.”
“Inuyasha… I…”
“I don’t want to lose you,”
Silence, not a single word spoken.

X . X . X . X

This originally was supposed to be a One-shot, but the chapter was TOO long even for me to read, so I had to split them up. Chapter Two will be up in shortly, I hope. Anyways, hope you liked it!
