Soft amber eyes gazed out boredly as they swept across the acres of grass, flowers, trees, and a small river that ran through it all. "How boring.." a girl muttered, sticking her tongue out at nothing in particular as she sat against a tree. It was true that the field was perfect for relaxing, but she didn't like relaxing... she was very bored without anything to do. Perhaps if she was raised in a life of leisure, she would be able to enjoy the peacefulness of the beautiful but boring field. And, alas, she could have very well lived out such a life if she had wished to. Closing her eyes, she pictured what her life would have been like if she had just accepted her limited power. Instead of spending all day training, she would go out with the other children and play fun games. She would sleep under the shade of trees and eat apples while lazily pondering about the future. She would be very popular in the village, and would have tons of friends. 'Kagamin!' they'd shout, motioning for her to play with them.
Kagami shook her head violently. "How childish." she said with distaste, shaking her head in shame. Growing up, she was very isolated from the other kids because she would spend every day with her grandfather. She had no time for fun and games. She had focused on what she wanted and achieved it in the end. She remember very clearly the day she turned sixteen, when her grandfather had announced that her training was finished. As a present, he had given her a doll. At first, Kagami thought he was joking. She shortly found out that it was no joke, and that her grandfather intended for her to actually have it. "Take it with you everywhere, and don't ever lose it or give it away. It's incredibly important..." she muttered, repeating the words he had spoken to her when he gave it to her. A year later, she was still toting the stupid doll around. Of course, it was in the pack she carried on her back, where no one could see it. She respected her grandfather's wishes, but she didn't want to be made fun of. Sighing, Kagami took the doll out of her pack and held it up. "Hmm... I wonder what's so special about you." she said aloud.

Rustles could be heard from around the other side of the tree. It appeared that there had been another being listening to the words she would say ever now and then. Ian thought they sounded jumbled... as if they were the ends of thoughts that just so happened to slip out of her mouth. It made him curious to know exactly what was boring... childish, and special. He had a feeling that they were different thoughts, not the same thing but he wasn't sure. He moved around to the side she was on and looked down at her, smiling at her. He was always happy to find company, since there never seemed to be any around. He looked at the doll and raised an eyebrow, deciding to speak and not simply hide. "Well... I'm sure theres something about it"

"Keh?!" Kagami quickly sprung to her feet and stared at the stranger. She hadn't heard him at all until he said something. "Uhh.." she began awkwardly, feeling a bit embaressed about being caught off-guard like that. "Nnn... who are you?" she asked, bending down to pick up the doll that she had accidently dropped when the stranger surprised her.

Ian tilted his head to the side slightly, looking at her now almost evenly since she was standing up. He looked at the doll and shrugged, not realizing he did so. "My name is Ian.... and may I ask your name then?" His voice was sincere, it was obvious he wasn't just saying it to try and hit on her. He was simply being polite.

"Uh... Kagami." she responded curtly. Deciding that, at that moment, this Ian person was no threat, Kagami sat back down and stared at him as if she was trying to see through him. "Nnn.." She blinked and suddenly narrowed her eyes. "So, do you usually go around scaring people silly?" she asked.

Ian laughed a little bit, standing now as if he was trying to not defend himself, letting her try to see through him. He never cared when people did things like that because he was always honest. Well, not always, but he tried to be honest with others ever since he lost his memory, whether or not he did so before was beyond him. He nodded slightly. "Well... sometimes I try to, sometimes I try not to scare them, but I was curious... I wasn't aware I would scare you"

Kagami looked a bit annoyed and confused at the same time at his blunt honesty. "I thought I was alone... I had no idea I had company, that's why I was scared. Gotta keep your guard up these days, you know?" she said with a small sigh. "Oh well, though. It's not your fault.." she said, her amber eyes suddenly becoming stoic. 'It's not his fault... it's mine, if anything. I'm not strong enough to detect another's presence... how pathetic!'

Ian shrugged and nodded slightly. "Although It might be my fault.... my twilight does tend to sometimes not allow people to know I'm there whether I want it to or not... so it could be my fault." He tried to reassure her abit, not sure if she was okay or not. When she had told him it was not his fault she sounded a little bit disappointed in herself, almost sad.

"Don't flatter yourself too much... even if it was your 'twilight', as you say, I probably wouldn't have noticed either way. Hmm, tell me, what do I seem to you? I mean, am I human, or a demon? Half of each?" she asked, obviously testing his skills. She knew immediately he was a demon, but she wanted to see if he could tell what she was. "I'm just curious to see if you get it right. And be specific."

Ian raised an eyebrow and tilted his head, walking from side to side pacing in a semi-circle around her. He shrugged then smiled, as if he had on idea what was going on. "Well you're over half human I believe... maybe something like... 1/4 demon, and judging by the heated aura around you i'd say some kind of fire demon, is that close?" Ian was guessing mostly, he wasn't lying about the aura or about thinking she was more than 1/2 human... but he was still guessing.

Kagami laughed, not a kind laugh, but a rather bitter one. "You're wrong." she said, smirking. Of course, he was right, and she knew he would be right before he even gave his answer. Her stoic eyes lightened with amusement. "No, I lied. You're right, of course. Now, being that only twenty-five percent of me is a demon, I must seem pretty weak, hm?"

Ian blinked. He was wrong? He shook his head for a moment untill she told him he was right, which confused him and forced him to shake his head again quickly, as if it somehow did the same thing as rubbing your eyes. He tilted his head again and laughed. "Well... you could be weak, but if you've trained hard then of course you could be pretty strong... so I wouldn't know."

"Heh heh, sorry, my grandfather did that to me a lot. Bear with me here..." she said with an apologetic sigh. "Correct; you wouldn't know. In fact, you should have no idea. However, let me make a point here.." Kagami said as she stood up and placed her hand on the tree. Within the blink of an eye, the tree was consumed in angry flames. "Now, I'm not trying to impress you; I have no doubt this stuff must be 'juvenile' for a full-fledged demon such as yourself." she said, retracting her hand from the burning tree. "But this is just a warning... if I seem weak, don't underestimate me. I may not be able to beat you, but I assure you that you will be walking away with quite a few injuries.... now, I'm not saying this because I think you're suspicious, but I'm just letting you know in case you plan on doing something stupid." Kagami hissed, ever cautious and untrusting of the stranger. "Just because I'm only one fourth demon doesn't mean I'm weak.."

Ian looked at the tree. He watched as it became consumed in flames and frowned, listening to her speak. He put his hand on the tree and the flames seemed to disappear, leaving no scorch marks or traces that the fire was even there. Ian looked back at her and smiled, nodding. He wasn't sure if the fire would actually hurt him... but he had a feeling that if she got close enough she would be able to hit him with a weapon... which wouldn't be too hard since she could take at least some of the fire he would use. "Well... I never assumed that you would be so weak you wouldn't hurt me... I never said you were weak either, so don't get defensive, okay?" a smile appeared on his face, a warm smile that would show he meant to be friends.

Kagami's defensive expression faultered, replacing it with confusion. "Defensive? Me? Psh." she said, feeling heat rising in her face. It was true though, she was incredibly defensive, but the only reason she had acted as she had was because she did not want anyone to think that she was weak just because she was more human than demon. When he surprised her, she saw her shock as a moment of letting her guard down, and she felt that she needed to set the record straight. "Sorry."
